Grammy Drama: Album of the Year Winner 2023

Although it is fair to be disappointed in your favourite artist not winning an award, it is completely inappropriate and rude to belittle the winner of the award. Harry Styles expressed that it is his “most personal album yet,” signifying that he worked extremely hard on this album (TODAY, 2022). Moreover, Harry spent all of 2022 touring and promoting his album further. This includes selling out 15 nights at both Madison Square Garden in New York and the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. This makes him the first solo artist to sell out 15 consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden (Lietz, 2022).

Although Beyoncé had a successful year musically, unlike Styles, she did not tour, nor release any official music videos for her new album. I must admit that she is an incredibly talented artist and Renaissance is a great album; however, Styles has spent 2022 promoting his new album, and I believe the Album of the Year award was well deserved.

Lastly, it is incredible rare for someone who was part of a musical group to make a name for themselves on their own. Styles was originally part of the boy band One Direction, that got big after the boys individually auditioned for The X Factor. For Styles to have become this successful in his solo career is an incredible accomplishment. Although Beyoncé has an incredible music career, I believe that it is about time that Harry Styles got the recognition he deserves.
